Geraldton Port Facilities Upgrade
Australia

Project Overview

The project involved upgrading the existing central user facility train unloader near Berth 4/5 at Geraldton Port.

Former MGIO operations allows for one cart of ore to be unloaded at a time. This unloaded ore goes through an underground vault to an existing shed via a system of transfer towers and conveyors. The scope of the project was to build a new system of conveyors and transfer towers to feed the existing shed, as well as a new shed on another side of the port.

This was a brownfields project – MGIO needed to maintain operations with the exception of shutdowns.

All the transport routes were required to be kept operational. In order for construction to make as little impact as possible all works had to be carefully planned with operation critical works undertaken in shutdowns.

TBH’s Role

TBH was engaged by Mount Gibson to provide a series of planning and management services, including:

  • Development of a design and construction schedule against which the overall upgrade progress was measured and reported
  • Preparation of a shutdown schedule detailing all works during the shutdown period
  • Provision of weekly/monthly reports by monitoring and updating the schedules
