Project Overview

The state of the art EDGY Building marks a key stage in the expansion of the University of Southern Queensland’s (USQ) Springfield campus. The new five level $41.9 million facility features a central learning commons and hub, library services, specialist teaching spaces, innovative study areas and staff accommodation.
The new building provides functional and modern architectural links between the existing Building A, the auditorium and future developments on the campus.
This Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) project was funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Education Investment Fund (EIF) as part of the Structural Adjustment Fund (SAF).

TBH's Role

TBH was engaged by USQ to provide quality project management services and independently undertake the role of superintendent for the 5-Star Greenstar EDGY Building. Throughout the construction phase, TBH managed the co-ordination of both contractor and principal to ensure the compressed project timeframe was achieved.
The project experienced significant time and budget risks when the principal directed the project team to make major changes to the layout of two levels of the EDGY Building. To mitigate delays, TBH held weekly meetings with the principal, ensuring all contractor queries directed to the University have been responded by the USQ user groups, enabling swift closure to RFI’s. Additional design meetings was undertaken to discuss concept designs in an endeavour to finalise the revised layout/scope of Level 1 and 3.
Risk workshops were being held on a quarterly basis to ensure the project team are aware of potential risks and actively forward-planning to mitigate any foreseen risks to the completion of project which may arise.
